Savanna Easter weekend 2022
Savanna In Spring
We are on our way again. O'Hare airport is a great start. However I did not realize how small the plane would be. I think this is the smallest plane we have been on yet. Wow! They are calling for storms so we will see how bumpy it gets. American Airlines always gets us there safely.
So early the grounds team is just showing up for shift change.
JR we need to reconsider out depart time!
It is busy this morning
Good bye Chicago! Yep this is an early one again. That is the sky before the sun comes up!
We landed in the cutest airport. They really thought about all the little pieces. This is the fountain that greets you while your heading off to your destination.
This time we were able to get our rental car so quickly. The line was short and they were ready. It could be that it was before 10 am.
Our room was not ready until 4 pm so we decided to get some lunch and tour the beautiful city.
Our first stop was Bryan Street garage where we parked for the day. Most everything was close enough to walk.
Lunch was at Treylor Park where we had to have the Avocado Fries. Wow they were good. We may have to have them in the Air fryer.
The food was amazing and the servings were huge. Then we were off to walk it all off. This was the Historical District and we were right across the street from the River walk so we headed that way. It did not matter what way you went it was all clean and jut beautiful. The weather was a little rainy but we brought our umbrellas.
Who knew Pralines were so good? Especially when they give you a warm taste.
I think he has truck Envy! If you know him he has a tall truck. But is it this tall?
The river walk was beautiful during the day. So many people walking around and this was Easter Weekend. The shops were open and ready for visitors. They were all so very inviting and ready to help with anything.
Make sure to look at how cute the old Alley ways are. That stone is historical old.
My Mother in law loves her Gnomes. Should we have bought this for her?
Huge barges came through all the time. They were so close you could hear the waves behind them. All of the young kids were running closer to the side to get a closer look.
Our Hotel was at Ellis Square so we had to see City Market. It was so cute. There are several shops where you can meander in and see the local candies being made and speak to the artisans.
We always love staying with this group The Studio Homes at Ellis Square They are a small hotel but it always feels homey and the workers at the door are very hospitable and greet you with a smile. We like to stay somewhere we have a kitchen so we can get some quicker healthy things to eat while we are there. From where we stayed there is a Walgreens with a small selection of groceries, but we had a hard time not eating the local cuisine while we were there.

Jr had to try the decoration to see if it really worked. (Yes he forgot his wallet was there)
We had a great view on the square. The night life was fun and we really liked watching the different cars going down the street below us. The roof view was pretty as well. They had a full coffee bar and several loungers. It was raining so we did not hang out too long.
The squares were so close we made sure to walk around to them.
Download a historic district map to your phone so you can get around quicker. It was very clean and seemed safe where we walked. We loved using our feet as our transportation.
The fountains were so pretty in Forsyth Square we had to sit and people watch. There were several weddings walking through as well as a painter who had to paint the fountain. There was a senior getting her portraits taken. This was a beautiful backdrop.
The squares are so beautiful. Make sure to plan two days to truly discover all of them.
Make sure you stop by and visit the Cathedral. It is beautiful inside and out. We went during Easter weekend and were not allowed to enter due to preparations but this was not our first visit so we have seen the inside. There is a cute little coffee café across the street where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while you sit and think about life.
But so many people want to get very close to it. The second picture you can see there is a drone that is in the way of some of our pictures. Please be mindful of others and respect that everyone wants to get that iconic picture for themselves.
There were several horse and carriages coming and going down the roads and as we walked by we could hear between the buggy rider and driver. Memories are made here in Savanna. Everyone we met were nice and ready to help or have a conversation. Even an amazing couple who stood in line with us for an hour at Leopold's.
If you look to your left on a street make sure to turn and look to your right. Every way you turn is just as beautiful as the other.
Any road you turn there has beautiful architecture as well as beautiful trees and flowers.
Night on The Historical River Walk is even more beautiful lit up.
If you know us at all you know my husband LOVES his ice cream. Yep we stood in line for an hour for this Ice Cream.
Not only is it an experience but it was smooth and worth the wait. We stayed down the street from here and debated taking a second one home for the next night. We were good and only had one but yep it is worth the wait.
This was a nice walk on Easter Morning. The rain had stopped and there were only a handful of people there. It was amazing to think that this was a place where so many soldiers lived so long ago. There were several signs posted that told the story as well as a few reenactors. It was a good spur of the moment stop. Bring your National Parks Card. That can be used here.
Make sure to take the stairs to the top. The view is amazing up there.
We finally made our way to Tybee Island. We thought Easter weekend it would be Not very busy and we thought it was going to be cool. We were wrong. We should have brought our suits. We had one day to go to the island and learned our lesson. Always bring your suit to everywhere you go. It was so nice. The water was warm, the sun was hot and it was the most perfect beach day. This is an amazing place. We will return later.
Lunch was our first stop. We spent the morning touring the fort.
They had the best flounder sandwich. Wow. We had to get an order of Fried Green tomatoes as well. This was a great choice. The inside decor was so cute but we had to get an out door table.
We drove to the end of the island and found a wonderful parking space on 19th street. We just started walking to the peer and under. After a few hours we realized we had walked several miles but the weather was amazing. we saw several creatures along the way as well as shells and a live sand dollar. Remember that if you go walking to take a picture of the street sign of where you started because the beauty will get you lost really quick.
The day is not over yet.
We were only about 20 min from an iconic sight in Georgia. This place is just as beautiful as it is in the movies. Pay the $20 and take that beautiful drive. Wow it is breathtaking.
As soon as we pulled in to the site the skies opened up and it started to rain but it did not disappoint. The trees danced and they started to sway. It was beautiful.
There is a few walks through the park. Several historical homestead sites. Make sure to get out of your car and take those walks. It is just beautiful.
Historical Homestead
This was our dinner Sunday Night. It was a fun dessert for dinner restaurant. They had the best menu. Again if you know us we rarely have dessert and if we do it is just ice cream. But to only have pie and wine for dinner was a reach. But this was the best choice. Wow this chef was so amazing. The specialty drinks were made wonderfully. This is a must go. It is only a 21 and over place though and maybe not a first date place. (Don't go with your family)
Next door was the cutes wine bar. This one was safe for a person to bring their family. It is a wine café you can sit and pet the adoptable cats. What a wonderful idea to find homes for all of these cats.
Walk around a look at the beautiful architecture. There are historical buildings as well as some new builds to look like new. There are museums as well. Inside all the squares there are plaques that explain the statues or the special statues. There are also many tours that are full of all kinds of information and will give advice on where to go.

They have an amazing selection of Breweries and small Wine bars for those who like to head out at night. There is no way a person will get bored in Savanna as there is always something for someone to do.
Good Bye Savanna. This was an amazing three days. American Airlines is our only way to fly. Thank you again for a wonderful trip.
But it is always nice to come home to Chicago O'Hare.
